International Masters Regatta 2017 concluded successfully today!

Organized by the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA), subvented by the Home Affairs Bureau (Arts & Sport Development Fund), the accredited event for the Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR, International Maters Regatta 2017 was concluded successfully at the Shing Mun River Regatta Course on 23 April (Sun)! This regatta attracts five overseas teams and 14 local teams to take part and this is the second year to organize in Hong Kong.

To encourage and promote rowing as the life-long sport, the HKCRA organized the International Masters Rowing Regatta for those rowers who attains the age of 27 or above and the race distance is only 1000m. Masters rowing events are divided into 6 categories ranging from A to F for the minimum age 27 years in category A to average age 60 years or more in category F.

This year, we have the participants from Mainland China, USA, The Czech Republic and Singapore. The oldest male rower is from Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC), Mr. SORTON, David who is now aged 67 and took part in Men’s Maters Doubles event (Category F). While the oldest female rower is Ms. Voegtie CORDULA, also from RHKYC who is aged 54 and had taken part in Women’s Masters Doubles event (Category D). It was also the great pleasure of the HKCRA to invite Ms. Scarlett PONG, BBS, JP, Member of the Sha Tin District Council to present the medals in the event.

Rowing is an accessible and inclusive sport that provides opportunities for enjoyment and achievements at all levels, no matters your age, your physical ability, and gender. The HKCRA wishes to introduce the masters regatta enabling people from all ages to take rowing as their regular sport activity especially for those people who already retired and want to maintain their regular aerobic training and to take part challenging activities.

The HKCRA takes this opportunity to wish all masters rowers enjoyed the event and will continue to provide a platform for the rowers to have life-long involvement in the sport of rowing.
