39th Hong Kong Rowing Championships Concluded Successfully Today

Organised by the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA), the 39th Hong Kong Rowing Championships concluded successfully on 28 and 29 October 2017.  This year, the competitions are very exciting, despite of Hong Kong, crews from China, Chinese Taipei, Macau, Japan and Singapore have taken part in the Championships. The atmosphere of the Championships is heart-beatable. This is also one of the accredited events for the Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR.

The Gold Medallist in the Open Men’s and Women’s Single Sculls went to WANG Min Hui & LIU Chia Chin from Nantou of Chinese Taipei which shows the competitiveness of the teams as they have been the champion crews for a couple of times in several years. While the Gold Medallists in the Open Men’s and Women’s Eights went to Lok Tsui Rowing Club & the Education University of Hong Kong Mixed Team and Lok Tsui Rowing Club & ShaTin Grace Rowing Club Mixed Team respectively. Local teams also obtained good results in the Championships too. Hong Kong Olympics duo LEE sister participated in the Open Women’s Eight’s winning team. Another two Hong Kong representatives TANG Chiu Mang, CHIU Hin Chun and the most experienced rower LAW Hiu Fung took part in the Men’s Eights with other Hong Kong Rowing Squad Members. They beat the team from National Chi Nan University and Lok Tsui Rowing Club Team A.

As supported by Ms. Scarlett PONG, BBS, JP of the ShaTin District Council Member, “VIVA Shing Mun” Kids Drawing Competition Art Works Exhibition and Medal Presentation Ceremony was held in day 2 of the Championships. We are glad to have the children and their parents to participate in this annual rowing gala. Booth games about rowing were set up in the race venue and a lot of children and rowers visited and played in those booths which prove the theme #VivaShingMun has successfully infiltrated in the community.

Lastly, the HKCRA would like to express our heartfelt for the support from RowSport Asia Ltd, AG Rowing, Blackmores, Pocari Sweat, KT TAPE HK, O.R.S., Excilor and Mentholatum as well as the Home Affairs Bureau (Art & Sports Development Fund) and Leisure & Cultural Services Department to make the event a great success.
