Hong Kong China Rowing Association

Organized by the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA), co-organized by the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation (HKSSF) and subvented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Hong Kong Schools Rowing Championships 2016 was concluded successfully on 12 and 13 November in Sha Tin Shing Mun River.  This Championships recorded high number of entries from 74 local schools and more than 240 students to take part.  The junior squad members and medallists in 2016 Asian Junior Rowing Championships (AJRC) also compete in the Championships to increase the competiveness. This year, we have primary schools to take part aged under 13 events and the Boys’ and Girls’ champions were gone to James MOORE (Kellett School) and Leah GILLETTE (Hong Kong International School) respectively.

 

The highlight of the Championships was on the Boys’ Single Sculls Event (Aged 19 and under).  The Gold Medallist CHAN Chi Fung and Bronze Medallist WONG Yu Ho compete in this event and finally CHAN Chi Fung captured the champion title.  Another intense event was the Boys’ Doubles Sculls Event (Aged 19 and under) that the medallists from AJRC including HO Yu Hin, CHOW Yee Ping (Lam Tai Fai College Team A); WONG Wai Chun and LAM San Tung (Lam Tai Fai College Team B) were compete with CHAN Chi Fung and LAI Chun Hin from HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 3 Secondary School.  Eventually, WONG Wai Chun and LAM San Tung pulled ahead and took the Gold Medal.

After the two days competition, the HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No. 3 Secondary School won the Boys’ and Girls’ Overall Champion. The results of Boys and Girls events are summarized as follows:-

The Schools Rowing Championships is an unique on water rowing competition for local schools rowing teams in Hong Kong. It provides a platform for the young rowers to compete with each other and at the same time to corporate with the team members enhancing team spirit and sportsmanship. Through this annually opportunity, the HKCRA encourages all the schools to establish its own rowing team for promoting the sport of rowing and as an alternative sport option among the major sports.
