Hong Kong Rowing Team Meet the Media Today before the 18th Asian Games

The Hong Kong Rowing Team is now in their final phase of preparation for the Asian Games in Indonesia. They have just returned from a successful two-month training and competition tour in Europe and will depart for a final preparation camp in Nanjing, China on Saturday before flying to Indonesia on 13 August.

The original squad of 26 athletes (16 men and 10 women) has now been narrowed down to the final team of 17 athletes (11 men and 6 women) that will take part in seven events at the Games. These are Open Singles for men and women, Lightweight Singles for men and women, men’s Lightweight Eights, men’s Lightweight Fours and women’s Lightweight Quads.

The athletes representing Hong Kong have a strong track-record with five Olympians, four former Asian Games medallists and 11 Asian Championships medallists. They will however face a strong challenge from top Asian rivals China, Japan and South Korea – as well as from the host country Indonesia, who are entering their largest ever team.

The venue in Palembang is completely new and conditions are expected to be very challenging – with high levels of heat and humidity. It is hoped that the final training camp in Nanjing, which is also very hot in summer, will help the Hong Kong crews to acclimatise for this situation.

The Hong Kong Team are in good physical condition and ready to fight for medals.

We wish the Hong Kong Rowing Team every success in the Asian Games.
