In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, many global sports events were cancelled in 2020 and even the first quarter in 20201, the 2021 WRICH is held virtually to keep rowers from around the world competing safely. Developed by Time Team in the Netherlands, the new virtual platform allows Rowers to compete together from any physical location and all performances can be directly compared online. Spectators and supporters are also able to watch the races in real time, with live streaming on a YouTube channel and on the HKCRA’s official Facebook page.

“We are thrilled to have made the first ever virtual rowing event happen. The positive entry response and rowers’ dedication in the race is really impressive and encouraging. Despite that the pandemic impact may still prevail for a certain period of time around the world, the virtual racing event is creating a new normal in the sports scene. We believe that rowing spirit of “Yes, we can.” is widely embraced by the rowers’ community, and nothing can stop us from rowing together!” said Mr NG Kong Wan, Chairman of the HKCRA.
