Galaxy Rowing Courses

INTRODUCTION
Rowing - one of the oldest Olympic sports which is suitable for both men and women of any ability. Modern racing boats are sleek and long, with crews of one, two, four or eight rowers. Since rowing requires the smooth and synchronized movement of crew members, it is always an attractive spectacle and has been recognized as the ¡§ultimate team sport¡¨.

AN ALL-ROUND EXERCISE
Rowing - one of the best forms of aerobic exercise: on a sliding seat, the action of rowing utilizes every major muscle group ¡V legs, arms, back and stomach. Regular rowing can strengthen the heart and lungs, tone muscles, burn body fat, lower blood pressure ad relieve stress.

Galaxy Rowing Courses
The course system mainly divides into two streams: ¡§Sculling¡¨ and ¡§Sweep Rowing¡¨. Based on such streams, the courses will be run as follow:

Individual and Organisation can join the Galaxy Rowing Courses through the LCSD/ HKCRA/ Affiliated Clubs
-
HKCRA will based on seasonal or equipment demand to arrange the ratio of sweep or sculling course
- Participants can join sweep or sculling course according to their interest or development target

Star 3 Comprehensive/Star 1-3 Sweep Rowing Course
Level :
Suitable for beginner and fit for team or group participation

  2 sess./ totally 8 hours
¡iStar 3¡j
  4 sess./ totally 16 hours
¡iStar 3 Comprehensive¡j
  7 sess./ totally 28 hours

Introduction of sweep rowing equipment, basic technique, safety rule and coxswain knowledge

¡¯After passing the Star 3 skill test, participants can apply for ¡iContinuous Sweep Rowing Course¡jto learn advanced technique;
or apply for ¡iSculling Cross Over Comprehensive Course¡jto seek for overall basic skill of rowing.

Start 3 Comprehensive/Star 1-3 Sculling Course
Level :
Suitable for Beginner and fit for individual participation

¡iStar 2¡j
  2 sess./ totally 8 hours
¡iStar 3¡j
  4 sess./ totally 16 hours
¡iStar 3 Comprehensive¡j
  7 sess./ totally 28 hours

Sweep Rowing/Sculling Cross Over Comprehensive Course
Level: Participants who pass the Star 3 skill test and want to seek for overall basic skill of rowing; and fit for participant who may join the affiliated club
Period : 5 sess./ totally 20 hours
Topics : Same as Star 1-3 Sweep Rowing or Sculling course

Continuous Sweep Rowing Course
Level :
Participants who pass the Star 3 skill test of¡iStar 3 Comprehensive Sweep Rowing Course¡jor¡iSweep Rowing Cross Over Comprehensive Course¡j; suitable for sweep rower to learn advanced skill of rowing; and fit for rower who want to do regular training and participate in the rowing regatta

Period :
5 sess./ totally 20 hours

Topics :
Improving sweep rowing skill; coxswain knowledge and coxless boat training
Continuous Sweep Rowing Course
Level :
Participants who pass the Star 3 skill test of ¡iStar 3 Comprehensive Sculling Course¡jor¡iSculling Cross Over Comprehensive Course¡j; suitable for sculler to learn advanced skill of sculling; and fit for sculler who want to do regular training and participate in the rowing regatta

Period :
5 sess./ totally 20 hours

Topics :
Improving sculling skill; single/quadruple sculls training

By finishing the Star 3 or Continuous Courses, participant who attends the course over 80% can receive the ¡§Attendance Certificate¡¨. In addition, participant who can pass the skill test with over 70% can receive the ¡§Proficiency Certificate¡¨.
