Indoor Rowing has been becoming a popular sport in recent years and it has also become a single discipline of sport. Several international indoor rowing events, namely the 1st and 2nd Asian Machine Rowing Championships, Inter-port Invitational Championships, and Asian Inter-city Championships, were held in Hong Kong. Hong Kong will also host the 5th Asian Machine Rowing Championship in 2005.

It makes no major difference in skills between indoor rowing and water rowing. Strength, endurance, and perseverance are the major quality of a rower.

HKCRA runs a lot of local events for rowers in different skills level and age, such as Hong Kong Open Indoor Rowing Championships, Indoor Rowing Challenge Day, Youth Indoor Rowing Championships, and etc. All competitors are automatically placed in the ranking list of the “Hong Kong Indoor Rowing Ranking” with reference to their time records taken at their respective races.

At present, many schools, fitness centres, and clubhouses have already been equipped with rowing machines which are made available for different type of training.
