Immediate Release – 25 November 2018

2018 Asian Rowing Coastal Championships (Finals)

Victoria Harbour was the competition venue for two days racing in the 2018 Asian Rowing Coastal Championships over the weekend. Nearly 80 crews from eight countries and regions, saw over 200 rowers “Race in the City”. This is the first time that an international rowing event has been held in Hong Kong harbour and it showed the great potential of the harbour as a water sports arena for the community as well as promoting Hong Kong.

The 4km race course started and finished off Causeway Bay waterfront at Kellett Island, and took crews into the heart of Central, turning around buoys at the Central Piers, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel, Tamar Park and Golden Bauhinia Square. Spectators and casual visitors alike lined the shore to enjoy the spectacle of crews racing in front of them.

Coastal rowing boats are designed for open water rowing and the rough waters of Victoria Harbour were perfect to produce some exciting racing.
