ROWSport 2019 Hong Kong Rowing Indoor Championships cum Charity Rowathon

The First SAHK CUP delivered the Integrated Message in Sport

The 20th ROWSport 2019 Hong Kong Rowing Indoor Championships cum Charity Rowathon was concluded successfully over the weekend on 9 and 10 March at Kowloon Park Sports Center. More than 700 participants joined in these two days, including the athletes from China, Macau, Japan and Hong Kong. All participants and rowers enjoyed the excitement and atmosphere of the Championships. The competition also keeps pace with the times by providing mobile app for participants to check the race schedule, results, as well as obtain their e-Certs online, which is convenient and environmentally friendly.

This year, the HKCRA is honoured to invite SAHK as the supporting organization and introduced the “SAHK CUP”, which aims to encourage people with disabilities to actively take part in sports activities, by pairing able-bodied with disabled people from SAHK to race together. The cup was overwhelmingly supported by people of various field in the community, such as, FUNG Kin Shing, Senior Sports Reporter, Dr. Lobo LOUIE, Associate Professor of Department of Physical Education of the Hong Kong Baptist University, LEUNG Ying Suet, former Hong Kong Athletic Team representative, HO Ming Tat, FIBA official and tutor, representative of Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong, CHENG Oi Cho, former FIFA Referee, LOK Kwan Hoi, 2014 Asian Games Rowing gold medalist and 2012 Hong Kong Rowing Olympian, LUI Kam Chi, 1992 Hong Kong Rowing Olympians, TONG Siu Man, 2009 East Asian Games Rowing silver and bronze medalist, LEE Ka Man, 2008 & 2016 Hong Kong Rowing Olympian, KWOK Kwan Ting, 2014 Asian Rowing Cup gold medalist, CHEUNG Kwok Fai and NG Kong Wan, Vice Chairmen of Hong Kong, China Rowing Association, etc. And the HKCRA Vice Chairman NG Kong Wan and Cheng Chung from the SAHK won the champion.

Meanwhile, rowers had strived for their best results in the two days intensive competitions. Events like “Family Fun Relay” and “1-minute Ergo Challenge” were retained in order to echo the theme of “Everybody Rows”. While the traditional “Top of the Tops” 4x500m team relay, Lok Tsui Rowing Club (A) won the Women’s Champion, and the Hong Kong Fire Services Department defended the title.

To deliver our social responsibility, a total of $20,300 entry fee generated from the Charity events was donated to this year’s beneficiary, “InspiringHK Sports Foundation” which targets to provide equal sports training opportunities to underprivileged youths.
