41st Hong Kong Rowing Championships Concluded Successfully

 The two-day 41st Hong Kong Rowing Championships concluded successfully yesterday (22 September). This year, the Championships attracted a total of sixteen overseas rowing crews from seven countries or regions, including China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Macau China, Philippines, Singapore and Switzerland to take part in this annual spectacular rowing gala.

Although the Shing Mun Regatta Course were affected by white horses with some races needed to be either postponed or shortened the distance, the rowers still strived to complete the races. The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, who won a total of eight Gold Medals, was awarded with the HKCRA 40th Anniversary Memorial Cup. This Cup is presented to the local rowing club which captured the most gold medals in the Championships every year. Singapore rower, Joan POH Xue Hua from the Easter Rowing Club, won the Gold Medal in Open Events ROWSportConcept2 Women’s Single Sculls, while the Hong Kong Rowing Team representative, CHAN Chi Fung defended the Gold Medal in the Open Events ROWSportConcept2 Men’s Single Sculls for the second consecutive years. Meanwhile, the Lok Tsui Rowing Club won the Gold Medals in the featured Open Events ROWSport – Swift Racing Men’s and Women’s Eight events respectively.

The Championships had also received overwhelming responses with nine Disciplinary Forces and Corporates sectors to participate in this year, plus twenty one local affiliated clubs to make a total of six hundreds rowers to take part. The Club Canottieri Lugano from Switzerland made their debut in Hong Kong, with Marco Nicola BRIGANTI won the Gold Medal in Masters C Men’s Single Sculls event!

Soon after this Championships, on 29 September, the HKCRA will host the 6th Hong Kong Rowing Coastal Championships and Ranking Race for the 2019 World Rowing Coastal Championships; and the 2019 World Rowing Coastal Championships on 1 to 3 November. Both Championships will be organized at the Victoria Harbour. Hong Kong will welcome the world of rowing friends, with the world’s best coastal rowers competing together. We hope to see many overseas teams joining this unique coastal event.
